Performance: A Period of Animate Existence

  • Kislak Center, Van Pelt Library 3420 Walnut Street Philadelphia, PA, 19104 United States (map)

This year's artists-in-residence join the conversation on TIMESCALES with A Period of Animate Existence (PAE), which presents a series of meditations on planetary cycles and life cycles, set in a time of dire ecological predictions and rapid technological change. Children, elders, and machines look at the future in five movements that echo the character and pacing of a 19th century symphony.

The performance will be followed by a public conversation led by Marcia Ferguson (Penn Theatre Arts Program)

This epic project is a collaboration of the Pig Iron Theatre Company, director Dan Rothenberg, designer Mimi Lien, and composer Troy Herion. PAE recently received major funding from the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage.
